A man and woman have been charged after police say they left a child in an SUV parked at a business on East 9th Street Saturday morning.
Hopkinsville Police say they were called to the business located near the intersection of Gant Street for an abandoned vehicle and found a 1-year-old child inside.
The mother and father 23-year-old Nancy Heflin and 29-year-old Jonathan Deloach were reportedly located by police five hours later and denied abandoning the child.
Police say their eyes were bloodshot and they had slurred speech. They were both charged with first-degree criminal abuse and public intoxication.
An ambulance was called to the scene to take the child to the hospital to be checked out but police say the child did not show any signs of being injured.
