A Christian County Circuit Court judge has ruled on a motion requesting a bond reduction for the man accused of killing a Pembroke couple and their neighbor in 2015.

Judge John Atkins issued the Order Wednesday denying a bond reduction for Christian “Kit” Martin, who is charged with three counts of complicity to murder, arson, attempted arson, second-degree burglary, and three counts of complicity of tampering with physical evidence.

During a hearing held via video conference on April 16, Judge Atkins heard arguments from Martin’s defense attorney’s requesting that his $3 million bond be reduced to $1 million.

In the Order Denying Modification of Bond, Judge Atkins states “the Court finds that the difficulty predicting the Defendant’s reasonably anticipated behavior if released, his history of violence that resulted in imprisonment, and the extremely grave nature of his charges require denial of the motion to modify bond.” He also said in the Order the bail as set is not oppressive and the bond, as proposed by the defense, is “inadequate and fails to consider the gravity of the charges.”

Martin, a former Fort Campbell Army officer, was arrested in May 2019 after he was indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury in the shooting deaths of Calvin and Pam Phillips and their neighbor, Ed Dansereau in November 2015. Calvin Phillip’s body was found in his home on South Main Street in Pembroke, and the bodies of his wife Pam and Dansereau were found in a burned-out car in a cornfield on Rosetown Road a few miles from the victim’s homes.

Judge Atkins set a pretrial conference for June 11, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

No trial date has been set in the case.
