Two Evansville men are facing charges following a pursuit that ended in Princeton Saturday night.
Kentucky State Police Post 2 Public Information Officer Trooper Rob Austin states that just after 7:30 Trooper Alec Winters observed a Nissan Maxima operating at a high rate of speed near the 89 mile marker in Hopkins County on I-69. He adds that Trooper Winters was able to initiate a traffic stop and come into contact with the driver, 29-year-old Letarion Gines, and a passenger, 30-year-old Binnie Bryant Jr., but during the traffic stop Gines supposedly put the vehicle in drive and began to flee.
Trooper Austin notes that Trooper Winters, with assistance from Trooper Cody Kromer, pursued Gines for several miles until the vehicle became disabled in a ditch just inside the Princeton city limits. Gines then reportedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot but was apprehended quickly. Bryant Jr. remained in the vehicle and was also detained.
Trooper Austin states that further investigation revealed both Gines and Bryant Jr. were allegedly under the influence and in possession of marijuana and handguns.
Gines was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana – firearm enhancement, first degree fleeing or evading police – motor vehicle, first degree fleeing or evading police – on foot, DUI first offense, speeding 26MPH over the limit, and various other vehicle related offenses.
Bryant Jr. was arrested and charged with public intoxication – controlled substance, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and possession of marijuana – firearm enhancement.
Both Gines and Bryant Jr. were then lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
