Georgetown Man Facing Charges Following Multi-County Pursuit

33-year-old Marvin B. Keith

A Georgetown man is facing several charges, including fleeing and evading, wanton endangerment of a juvenile, and receiving stolen property, following a multi-county pursuit and manhunt.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White reports that his office received a request from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office just before seven Monday night regarding a stolen vehicle they located on Interstate 24 that had recently been reported stolen in Hickman County. He adds that Marshall County deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, however, it allegedly fled at a high rate of speed and a pursuit ensued in the eastbound lanes of I-24. The vehicle then traveled along I-24 until the interchange with I-69, where it continued northbound.

Sheriff White states that Lyon County deputies joined the pursuit and took the lead as it entered Caldwell County at speeds of over 120 MPH.

Sheriff White explains that with the assistance of the vehicle’s owner the car’s engine was remotely turned off and the vehicular pursuit subsequently ended between the 89 and 90-mile markers of I-69 near the Hopkins County line. The vehicle’s operators then reportedly fled the scene on foot and into a wooded area near the interstate with Marshall and Lyon County deputies pursuing on foot.

Sheriff White reports that his office and an Eddyville Police Department unit detained a juvenile in the stolen vehicle who was determined to be a 13-year-old male who was missing from Scott County. The juvenile was transported by Caldwell EMS to Baptist Health-Madisonville for an unrelated health issue and was later released into the custody of his mother.

Sheriff White notes that the two-hour search for the stolen vehicle’s operator took law enforcement to Dawson Springs where the driver was eventually taken into custody in a wooded area near the Dollar General Store after a brief struggle with police. The driver was then identified as 33-year-old Marvin B. Keith.

In Lyon County, Keith is being charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment – juvenile victim, first-degree wanton endangerment – police officer, first degree fleeing and evading police – motor vehicle, receiving stolen property over $10,000, first degree fleeing and evading police – on foot, first degree driving on a DUI suspended license 7th offense – aggravating circumstance.

Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 2 have charged Keith with second degree fleeing or evading police – on foot, resisting arrest, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Keith was then lodged in the Hopkins County Jail with potential additional charges pending.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Eddyville Police Department, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police Post 2, Kentucky State Police CVE Division, Dawson Springs Police Department, Christian County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, Hickman County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County EMS, and Caldwell County EMS.
