A well-known and beloved member of the Hopkinsville community and former mayor Wally Bryan has passed away.
Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel confirmed to the News Edge that 73-year old Bryan died at his home of natural causes Thursday morning. He says Hughart, Beard, and Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements to be announced later.
Bryan previously served as mayor of Hopkinsville from 1990 until 1998 when he was defeated in the May primary by Democratic candidate Rich Liebe, who went on to win the mayor’s seat in the general election that year.
Bryan later founded Challenge House, where he remained involved as a volunteer. During a February Rotary Club of Hopkinsville meeting, you could hear the passion he had for Challenge House as he described the program.
Bryan was also very passionate and involved with several initiatives associated with the inner-city and helping the homeless, as well as the Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville-Christian County. He was also the former Co-owner of Century 21 Town & Country Realtors and a former teacher.
Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home in Hopkinsville has announced services for Bryan will be private with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. A public event to honor and remember Wally’s life will be held at a later date.
