A trial date has been set for a Hopkinsville police officer charged with perjury.
Court personnel tells the News Edge the trial for the case against Jefferson Alexander will begin Friday, November 20th, and continue the following Monday and Tuesday before Christian County Circuit Court Judge John Atkins.
Alexander was indicted by the grand jury in March 2019 for first-degree perjury. He is accused of providing false testimony to the Christian County grand jury in 2012 in the case against former city councilwoman Ann Cherry. As part of her plea agreement, Cherry resigned her city council seat after she was charged with official misconduct, tampering with a witness, and tampering with public records.
In 2017, the City of Hopkinsville settled a federal lawsuit filed by Cherry and agreed to pay her $150,000 but did not admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
