Memorial Day ceremonies to honor and remember our nation’s fallen soldiers were held a little differently this year around the area and across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Fort Campbell, the 101st Airborne Division gathered for a brief ceremony Monday morning and a moment of prayer led by Division Chaplain Kevin Wainwright.
Following the prayer, Commander Major General Brian Winski and Command Sergeant Major Bryan Barker took part in a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate Memorial Day and honor the Americans who died while serving our nation. After the wreath-laying, a moment of silence was observed followed by the playing of taps.
Memorial Day, a federal holiday in the United States, has been observed on the last Monday of May since 1868 and honors military personnel who have died while serving in the U.S. Military.Memorial Day has also become known as the unofficial start of the summer in the United States.
