Pennyrile Electric announced Friday morning it has partnered with the Tennessee Valley Authority to award $40,000 to help the local community during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Spokesman Brent Gilkey says funding from Pennyrile Electric and other sources was matched by TVA’s COVID-19 Community Care Fund, which helps local power companies meet immediate needs in their communities by providing matching funds for local initiatives addressing hardships created by the pandemic.
Pennyrile Electric President & CEO Alan Gates says this was a great opportunity for them to coordinate funds to assist members in their service area. He adds these local agencies will be using the donation for utility bill assistance.
According to Gilkey, funds received by Helping Hands of Trigg County, the Aaron McNeil House of Hopkinsville, Todd County Interfaith Center, Lyon County Baptist Church, and Logan County Good Samaritan will be used for qualifying Pennyrile Electric members who need assistance with their utility bills.
TVA Executive Vice President Jeannette Mills says it is their mission to make life better for the people of the Valley, and providing these funds to address immediate needs is one way TVA can help ease the burdens on families and communities.
