Trigg Clerk Provides Update On Primary Election

Trigg County magistrates heard updates on the Primary Election Monday evening and approved a resolution to begin the process of honoring a longtime community supporter who passed away in 2010.

County Clerk Carmen Finley says her office is working hard to ensure the election runs as smoothly as possible. She says there are a few options to make your voice heard over the next few weeks.

One of the options includes voting in-person at the EOC Center at 39 Jefferson Street, behind the Trigg County Justice Center, weekdays through June 22 from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

Finley says you can also request an absentee ballot by clicking here or calling her office at (270) 522-6661.

On June 23 (Election Day), Finley adds the EOC and The Way Christian Youth Center will serve as the only in-person voting locations from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. There will be no voting at the normal precincts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finley says it will be impossible to vote twice.

She adds you will not be able to vote and forge anyone’s signature.

Finley reports election results will be reported as a consolidated county total, not by precinct as they have done in the past.

She adds they will be taking optimal measures to promote a safe and sterile voting environment and voters will be required to practice social distancing.

Finley asks everyone to vote early to help reduce crowding at the polling locations.

Magistrates also approved a resolution asking the Kentucky General Assembly to approve a request to rename the Horse Creek bridge on Cerulean Road after Malcolm Ray Sons.

County Attorney Randy Braboy read the resolution and said Sons was a longtime community member and supporter of Cerulean.

Sons wife Nancy and daughter Sharon were in attendance for the passing of the resolution.

Magistrates also approved the second reading of the fiscal year 2020-21 budget of $10.5 million. Nearly a million dollars is budgeted for the sheriff’s department, around 2.5 million for the road fund, and over $5.8 million for the general fund.
