Man Charged With Attempting To Shoot Christian County Deputy

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department says a Dawson Springs remains lodged in Christian County Jail without bond after he tried to shoot a deputy who was assisting him following an ATV accident Saturday night.

Sheriff’s Department Public Information officer Chris Miller says Deputy Brandon Myers was on routine patrol in the area of Eagle Way Bypass and Pennyrile Parkway around 10:00 Saturday night when he saw an ATV that had been wrecked.  He stopped and got out of his cruiser to help the driver 32-year-old Bradley Wayne Dunning of Dawson Springs.  Dunning was reportedly complaining about injuries he sustained in the ATV crash.

While Deputy Myers was attempting to provide aid Dunning pulled a handgun and attempted to shoot Myers in the head. The weapon somehow malfunctioned and did not fire. Myers successfully took Dunning into custody and called for backup.
Deputies later discovered the four wheeler that Dunning was operating was stolen from a burglarized building at Tie Breaker Park in Hopkinsville. Police also determined Dunning was driving a pickup truck that had been reported stolen from Princeton.
Dunning was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer, Burglary 3rd Degree, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon.
