The state rolled out its first guidance Wednesday for the reopening of schools this fall with additional guidance expected in the coming weeks.
Interim Public Education Commissioner Kevin Brown said children and staff wearing masks will be the key to keep COVID-19 from spreading throughout the school setting.

Brown says there will be a six-foot social distance requirement in classrooms. When the six-foot rule can’t be maintained, students must wear masks.
click to download audioBrown went on to say that students must wear masks while riding the school bus. When arriving at school, all students will get their temperature checked and be screened for symptoms of COVID-19.
click to download audioBrown said teachers and staff will have to keep an eye out for indicators that will determine if the child remains in school or is sent home.
click to download audioAdditional guidance on pupil transportation will be announced Thursday and workplace health and safety on Monday.
Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman said she has issued a memorandum that suspends the 10-day limit on remote learning or NTI days. Schools can use remote learning as needed and combine it with in-person instruction if they wish.
Coleman also announced the state is also temporarily suspending the rule about using attendance to determine funding.
