Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a popular event in western Kentucky that draws national attention with its political speakers and barbeque picnic will be modified this year.
St. Jerome Catholic Church Father Darrell Venters says after a lot of prayer, looking at the signs of the times, and considering the welfare of the parishioners and members of the community, the 140th St. Jerome Picnic at Fancy Farm will not have any political speakers this year. In addition, he says no camping sites will be rented and no Friday night events will be held.
Father Venters says they will be selling pork and mutton by the pound, conducting an online and person to person raffle and selling T-shirts, but none of the other booths or stands will be open.
The popular parish picnic brings in hundreds of people from across the state and elsewhere and is held annually on the first Saturday of August.
