A Fort Campbell soldier drowned in Lake Barkley Sunday near Fort Donelson.
The Stewart County Emergency Management Agency reports an 18-year old male swung from the Fort Donelson rope swing into Hickman Creek and struggled to stay afloat. They add another soldier dove in the water to attempt a rescue but was unsuccessful.
The body was recovered around 7:00 Monday morning, with soldiers from Fort Campbell assisting in the recovery. The body was sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.
Stewart County officials add the name of the solider will be released when the next of kin is notified.
