A Nashville child was killed in a single-vehicle wreck near Interstate 24 in southern Illinois Saturday night.
A report from Illinois State Police says 27-year old Jose G. Coronel-Bautista, of Nashville, was driving on the ramp from US-45 to Interstate 24 westbound, near Metropolis when his vehicle exited the roadway on the right side. The report adds Coronel-Bautista over-corrected, swerved to the left, and his vehicle overturned.
A four-year-old female was pronounced dead on the scene by the Massac County Coroner. Coronel-Bautista, as well as, 27-year old Maria J. Alcantar-Morales, and a 17-year old male, also from Nashville, were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The report indicates Coronel-Bautista was the only occupant wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and was lodged in a nearby jail.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
