Grand Jury Returns Indictments For Wanton Endangerment And Strangulation

Two men charged with wanton endangerment and other offenses are among indictments returned by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday.

31-year old Brandon Rashawn Murray of Hopkinsville for first-degree strangulation, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, trafficking in marijuana less than 8 ounces, second-degree criminal mischief, and first-degree promoting contraband.

The charges stem from May when a female asked Murray about a phone call and he allegedly put his hands around her throat and choked her and then hit her multiple times before breaking her phone so she couldn’t call for help. The female was able to escape and run to a neighbor for help.

31-year old Jonte Levell Bailey of Clarksville was indicted for first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police, and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended/revoked license. According to the arrest warrant, on October 28, 2018, an Oak Grove police officer recognized Bailey while he was at a gas station on Hugh Hunter Road and knew he had outstanding warrants.

The officer activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop Bailey at his vehicle but he jumped into a vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed. Police said Bailey failed to stop before entering the roadway and then passed two vehicles in a no-passing zone. As he approached Stateline Road, police say he blacked out all the lights on the vehicle and proceeded into Tennessee.

The grand jury also returned a no true bill for Michael Wayne Sivils of Hopkinsville who was charged with first-degree domestic assault. The charge stemmed from April when police said Sivils shot his 27-year old son in the shoulder after he pushed him when they were fighting over a car. The grand jury said wrote the no true bill was returned at the request of Sivils’ son.
