Kentucky Reports 836 New COVID-19 Cases Saturday

Kentucky reported 836 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, the second-highest single-day total of coronavirus cases. Governor Andy Beshear said 22 of those cases were children ages 5 and younger.

This comes one day after the governor announced 797 new coronavirus cases on Friday and said a decision could come Monday on whether new measures will be put into place to fight the growing number of cases.

On Saturday, Governor Beshear, once again, said the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state continues to be a concern. He added they expect to take additional steps next week if the case numbers do not stabilize.

Governor Beshear also reported five new deaths Saturday, which included the 80-year old man who had underlying health conditions that the Christian County Health Department reported Friday afternoon had passed away due to the coronavirus. The new deaths reported Saturday, raised the state’s death toll to 696 since the outbreak began earlier this year.

As of Saturday, the governor’s office reported at least 582,521 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Kentucky. State officials said the positivity rate currently stands at 5.41%, the highest rate reported in the last few months, and a sign the virus is spreading more actively in our communities.

To date, Kentucky has reported an overall total of 26,764 coronavirus cases. Of that number, 7,421 have recovered from the virus.
