A Hopkinsville couple, who was charged with child abuse after allegedly abandoning their infant in a vehicle in May, was among several indictments returned by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday.
Johnathan Deloach and Nancy Heflin, both of Hopkinsville, were indicted on first-degree criminal abuse – child under 12 and public intoxication. On May 2, Hopkinsville Police arrested the couple after officers were called to a business on East 9th Street near Gant Street for an abandoned vehicle and found their 1-year old child inside. Officers located the couple about five hours later and said they both had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
The grand jury indicted Antoniyon Cayce and Isaiah Henderson, both of Hopkinsville, for second-degree robbery. Cayce was also indicted for receiving stolen property – a firearm, and possession of marijuana.
The charges stem from July 17 when police reported Cayce was a passenger on a moped and grabbed a man attempting to buy three video games in the area of Glass Avenue. Cayce reportedly took the man’s money and then he and the driver of the moped, Isaiah Henderson, drove off. As they drove off, police said the victim tried to stop them and Cayce threatened to shoot him and reached for a gun in his waistband.
Troy Cannon, of Hopkinsville, was indicted for second-degree assault. Cannon was arrested on April 25 after Christian County Sheriff’s deputies reported he assaulted a man with a wooden pole during a fight at a residence on Dawson Springs Road. The victim was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.
