Trigg County school board members approved the amended calendar for the 2020-21 school year that has students starting virtual classes in about two weeks.
During a special called meeting Monday afternoon, Director of Student Services James Mangels told board members about the new calendar that has students starting virtual classes on Monday, August 31.
Mangels adds the calendar meets all of the required hours for teachers and staff.
The amended calendar comes after board member Clara Beth Hyde brought up concerns from teachers about not having enough time to get ready for virtual classes. The original start date for the district was Wednesday, August 26. The new calendar gives teachers three additional days to get ready for online classes.
The virtual classes come after Governor Andy Beshear’s recommendation to start with them and not allow in-person classes until at least Monday, September 28. The district agreed to follow his recommendation Thursday evening.
In addition, Community Education Coordinator Sarah Elliott tells the News Edge preschool classes will begin virtually on Tuesday, September 15.
