Over 300 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Christian County Last Month

Christian County is now reporting 902 total cases of COVID-19, which means 8 new cases were confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

During a media briefing, Christian County Health Department spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney says the county has seen over 300 new cases in the last month.

Sweeney adds Christian County has 228 active cases, 660 recoveries, and 14 deaths since the pandemic began.

Jennie Stuart Health CEO Eric Lee says they are currently caring for 6 COVID-positive patients and have no one awaiting results. Lee adds Jennie Stuart Health has completed 5,769 COVID tests.

Sweeney adds they are continuing their testing within the community, having completed over 9,700, and are still reporting a high positivity rate.

She adds they will also conduct COVID-19 testing at the Western Kentucky State Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 12.

Sweeney says they know Labor Day Weekend is typically one where many parties are thrown, but they are still asking residents to continue following current health guidelines.

Christian County did become what is known as a ‘red zone’ by the Federal Government this week. Health department Director Kayla Bebout says the zone designation is based on the positivity rate and the new cases reported. More information about it can be found here.
