U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made a stop at Jennie Stuart Health in Hopkinsville Wednesday afternoon to express his gratitude to front-line healthcare workers, as well as discuss the impact of CARES Act funding.
McConnell took the time to speak with hospital CEO Eric Lee before addressing doctors, area legislators, and the media. He says he is glad to see hospitals be able to operate normally after having elective surgeries shut-down due to COVID-19 concerns earlier in the year.
He adds there was a price that was paid after the economy shut-down for about 2 and a half months.
Additionally, Senator McConnell says the CARES Act delivered $9.3 million to Jennie Stuart Health, with other funding available.
McConnell also shared that discussions are stalled on another COVID-19 relief bill for Americans, that could provide another round of stimulus checks. He says he has recommended a $1 trillion package, while the House recommended another $3 trillion package.
McConnell says one thing in his package that will not cost the American people anything, is liability protection for COVID-19.
While speaking about other issues, McConnell spoke about a recent visit to Fort Campbell where he talked with leadership about their COVID-19 response; the impact the virus has had on the installation; and the new Fort Campbell Middle School, currently under construction.
