Several staff and residents at a Hopkinsville nursing home have tested positive for COVID-19.
Christian Care Communities President/CEO Mary Lynn Spalding reports the Kentucky Department of Public Health is coordinating with the Christian County Health Department to support an outbreak of the coronavirus infection at the Christian Health Center located on Sterling Drive in Hopkinsville. She adds the nursing center has been adhering to the CDC guidelines and had been routinely checked. She says testing was conducted Wednesday which confirmed 17 residents and six staff are positive for the virus. Spalding adds all residents, family, and staff were immediately notified. She went on to say the facility has reported nearly all cases are asymptomatic at this time. Spalding says all staff who tested positive are isolated and under the care of their physician. The residents who tested positive have been isolated at the center and are receiving specialized care.
Christian County Health Department Director Kayla Bebout says they are working with the state and healthcare professionals inside the Christian Health Center. She adds everyone is committed to providing excellent care and supporting a good outcome for the residents.
Spalding says they are certainly distressed by the outbreak and have worked these many months since the pandemic to protect the lives of seniors in their care. She went on to say while this is not the outcome they hoped and prayed for, they know that Hopkinsville has a long history of focusing on the care of their residents. As a team, she adds they will get through this together and they are committed to always communicate transparently and be diligent in keeping everyone safe.
