Trigg County Public Schools announced last week they have added several new wireless internet hot spots throughout the county to help those who have a need for internet access, while virtual classes continue.
Sarah Elliott, Community Education Coordinator, says the school’s IT team and Family Resource Directors have worked together to find areas in the county that have enough cellular service for hot spots to provide internet access that is adequate for students to be able to download assignments to their Chromebooks.
Elliott adds there are seven school busses that are a part of the foodservice program that have hot spots turned on from 11:00 a.m. to noon each weekday. The meal delivery locations with internet include Linton United Methodist Church, Rockcastle Fire Department, Trigg County Recreation Complex, Roaring Springs Christian Church, Caledonia Locust Grove Church, the former Cerulean restaurant location, and Sinclair’s in Canton.
The new internet hot spots will be set up at the Wallonia Community Room (formerly Wallonia Restaurant), Hank’s Corner Market (242 Washington Avenue in Cerulean), Locust Grove Baptist Church (off of Kentucky 272), the Trigg County Convention Center (Trigg County Complex), Sinclair’s Gas Station (Canton One Stop), and Let’s Go Play in Cadiz. These hot spots will be turned on from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every day.
Elliott says the hot spots have a capacity to support up to 15 devices at a time, so students and community members are asked to be conscious of others needing to use them. When using them, students are encouraged to download several days or a week’s worth of assignments at a time to take home to work on.
All hot spot locations will have the same network name ‘TriggCoSchools’ and the same password: Wildcats.
