Trigg County Hospital was awarded a grant through the Pennyrile Area Development District to help make every patient room private.
Hospital CEO John Sumner told the board of trustees Thursday afternoon the grant from the Department of Local Government is in the amount of $105,000. He added they will have to match $85,000 of it to complete the project.
When completed, the hospital will have 18 private rooms instead of 12 rooms where patients sometimes had to share.
Sumner said they will run into a problem when it’s time to construct the rooms because that area is being used to house COVID-19 patients.
He added the rooms will make visits to the hospital more comfortable.
In addition to the six new rooms, the project will add two shower rooms and a nurses’ station. Plans for the project are expected to be brought to the board in October.
In other news, Sumner said they are continuing COVID-19 testing in the trailer outside the primary care building.
Testing is continuing every day at primary care. No appointment is necessary on weekdays, but you must call when you arrive for the test. Weekend testing requires an appointment.
