In response to the Christian County Health Department’s announcement regarding the “critical” status related to an uptick in COVID-19 cases, the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department announced a facility modification plan.
Superintendent Tab Brockman said Thursday afternoon the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex, Thomas Street Recreation Center, and Tie Breaker Athletic Park will only remain open for walking until the health department modifies its recommendation, which is currently in place through Friday, October 2. He added no other organized competition, tournaments, open gym sessions, events, practices, classes, or birthday parties will be offered until that time.
The sportsplex was slated to begin a new season of Indoor Turf Soccer League Sunday, but those games have been postponed until after October 2.
In addition, the Hopkinsville Dog Park and Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail, and their correlating restroom facilities, will remain open with no changes. All other parks, playgrounds, disc golf courses, and green spaces will be closed, similar to Phase 1 of Hoptown Parks and Recreation’s re-opening plan.
Brockman said they do plan to proceed with their final Movies in the Park this year. The movie ‘Indian in the Cupboard’ is scheduled to be shown on Saturday, October 3 at Trail of Tears Park.
