Small Business Stimulus Program Approved By City Council

Hopkinsville City Council unanimously adopted the COVID-19 Small Business Stimulus Program guidelines at a special called virtual meeting Tuesday night.

The action comes after council members voted at the last Committee of the Whole meeting to use $335,000 of the $2.23 million the city received from CARES Act funding for the Small Business Program.

As part of the stimulus program to apply for assistance, small businesses must meet award eligibility requirements, including being located within the city of Hopkinsville, must have its corporate headquarters located within Christian County, have a city business license, and must have 25 full-time employees or less. In addition, businesses must have experienced a loss due to COVID-19.

Applications from small businesses will be accepted beginning at 8:00 on the morning of November 2, 2020.

In other action, City Clerk Crissy Fletcher presented the municipal order creating the Economic Assistance Fund Committee, which includes five councilmen.

Also at the meeting, the council heard from Christian County Chamber of Commerce President Kelli Pendleton who presented the Community Vision Plan 2030. Pendleton said the 10-year plan was compiled from 1,300 surveys and 5,000 ideas that were submitted by community members and businesses to help the city grow and improve the lives and health of residents.

The entire plan can be found here.

The next Hopkinsville City Council meeting will also be virtual on Tuesday evening, October 20th, at 6:00. Mayor Wendell Lynch said they will be evaluating month to month if meetings will be held virtually or in-person, based on local COVID numbers.
