Hopkinsville City Council Ward 5 Republican incumbent Amy Craig and Independent candidate Don Pemberton shared their views on issues facing the city during the League of Women Voters forum last week.
Craig, who has served on the city council since 2017, believes that partisan politics truly divide the city.
Pemberton agreed with Craig and said the current ward system needs to be kept in tack. He added he would be in support of placing the issue on the ballot to see what the community thinks.
When asked about bringing in new businesses after the recent closure of JC Penney and Peebles. Pemberton said supporting local is very important.
Craig agrees that shopping local is a great way to keep businesses in the city and to attract new business.
Both were asked about adding sidewalks and more bus stops to a portion of Ft. Campbell Boulevard, what they think are the greatest concerns for the city, and what can be done to make city parks safer for residents at nighttime.
Craig said her husband Nathan currently practices law in Cadiz. She teaches French at University Heights Academy. Together they have three children. She currently holds positions on the Library Board, the Pennyroyal Area Museum Board, and the Parks, Recreation, Connectivity Action Plan Committee.
Pemberton said his background is in management with multi-million dollar companies in agriculture. He added he wants to fully represent everyone in his ward.
