Ward 11 Republican incumbent Jason Bell and his Democrat challenger Steven Hoover shared their views regarding issues facing the city of Hopkinsville during a recent League of Women Voters forum.
Bell, who has served on the council since 2019, is a small business owner and advocate. He added he’s running to represent the youth of Hopkinsville.
Hoover said he is a longtime resident of the city and has the heart to see the city grow and be successful.
When asked about the two greatest challenges facing the city, Bell said division is among the biggest.
Hoover said one of the big issues is the city budget.
Even though it’s a state issue to raise the minimum wage, both were asked about ways to help raise wages in the city. Bell said looking into tax cuts for small businesses would be a great way to help accomplish that.
Hoover said there are plenty of jobs that pay more than the minimum wage in and near the city.
