Governor Andy Beshear announced the state’s highest ever number of new daily COVID-19 cases and deaths Friday afternoon.
The governor reported 3,173 new coronavirus cases with 630 of those cases in Jefferson County alone.
He also said 1, 358 are in the hospital, 307 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 147 are currently on a ventilator.
Governor Beshear said like almost every state in America, Kentucky is seeing a surge that is concerning and deadly. He added the power to stop it is in our hands.
Beshear said this is the toughest spot the state has been in so far. He urged Kentuckians to follow the red zone county recommendations and school recommendations. He added everybody has got to pull their weight and do your part.
He also reported 25 new deaths Friday, raising the state’s death toll since the pandemic began to 1,647. Among the deaths reported Friday, a 93-year old woman from Christian County.
The state’s positivity rate rose to 8.68 percent, up from 8.29 percent reported on Thursday.
