Jennie Stuart Health officials said they are admitting patients that are sicker than they have been the last seven months through the COVID-19 pandemic as we enter flu season.
Beth McCraw, Chief Nursing Officer, told members of local media Thursday morning, they have not seen any in-patient flu patients.
McCraw stressed that COVID-19 is nothing like the flu and that the two will be prevalent over the next few months. During her comments, McCraw thanked the community for all of the support they had shown through the pandemic, especially when it came to donating PPE.
She added a lot of their staff is working overtime every pay period.
McCraw said many COVID positive patients see ongoing complications related to their previous infection and return to the hospital for additional treatment. She added those patients are no longer infectious, but they continue to have ongoing shortness of breath, lingering pneumonia, pulmonary embolisms, and decreased lung capacity.
