Christian County is nearing 500 active COVID-19 cases with the older population the hardest hit according to figures released by the health department Monday.
67 new cases were reported since Saturday with the county’s active case total at 496. The county’s active cases total has been over 400 for the past five days with Monday’s the most ever.
178 of the active cases are among people 60 and older. According to the state’s COVID-19 website, there are three long-term care facilities in Christian County reporting multiple cases with two of the three reporting over 35 active cases among residents and staff.
The health department announced there will also be no COVID-19 testing done at Tie Breaker Park Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Testing at Tie Breaker will resume Monday.
Amanda Sweeney with the health department said they are averaging 175 tests per day at the Tie Breaker location, with entry cut off at 10:45 to allow the staff to finish by 11.
She said the health department will begin offering antigen and rapid testing by appointment only at the health department on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in December. She said testing at Tie Breaker Park will be done on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting next month.
Also, the Christian County Health Department will be closing early Wednesday and remain closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
