First Lady Beshear Asks Residents To Spread Love

Kentucky First Lady Britainy Beshear released a statement Thursday morning asking residents to show love and quit spreading hatred, as tensions are high here at home and across the country.

Beshear said she has, up until now, chosen not to speak about politics and use her office to make a positive impact on the Commonwealth. She added due to recent events in the state, and at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., she felt she had to say something.

Beshear said recent events had shown the people who threatened her husband’s life over the summer are now calling for impeachment; among that crowd are some elected officials she said that were “entrusted to create a better place for the people of Kentucky.”

She added, “While they’ve chosen to use their time to spread hate and hurt others, they have overlooked the children who are confused, scared, and in need of leadership.” Beshear said many of them are worried about where they will sleep at night, where their next meal will come from, or if their family will get sick from COVID-19; and that families were suffering before the pandemic, there are many more now.

While many are focused on dividing the state, she said Governor Beshear is focused on bringing everyone together. Beshear added her husband ran for office to make a “positive difference” and that every decision he has made was made to better all residents’ lives.

Beshear added she feels for parents who have had tough conversations with their children and closed out her statement by saying, “We must remember, love always wins over hate.”
