Over 5,700 Christian County Public School students returned to the classroom Tuesday morning, as the district allowed those in traditional instruction to return to school.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel said during a weekly news conference; they had a 93-percent attendance rate across the district. He added everything went fairly smooth.
Bentzel added the last day for middle and high school traditional learning was November 20, so the district is glad to have them back and continuing in-person instruction.
The active COVID-19 case count is at the lowest point the district has seen for quite a while, according to Bentzel. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were 22 active cases among staff and 13 among students.
The highest active case counts for staff came from Hopkinsville High School with six and the Central Office with five. The highest active case count for students came from Christian County High School with four.
The district dropped 23 active cases over the three-day weekend.
Bentzel added the district saw 122 elementary, 86 middle, and 121 high school students return to traditional instruction after the second semester. Around 40 students joined the virtual learning academy for the entire third semester.
