A dismissal hearing in the perjury case against retired Hopkinsville Police Lieutenant Jefferson Alexander was held in Christian County Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

Special prosecutor Carrie Ovey-Wiggins and Alexander’s defense attorney, Eric Eaton, both appeared virtually before Chief Circuit Judge John Atkins.

Judge Atkins read an Order regarding the dismissal to which former councilwoman Ann Cherry has objected.

Alexander was indicted in March 2019 for first-degree perjury for allegedly providing false testimony to a Christian County grand jury in 2012 in the case of former city councilwoman Ann Cherry. She was charged with official misconduct, tampering with a witness, and tampering with a public record. As part of a plea agreement, Cherry resigned from her council seat.

In 2017, the City of Hopkinsville settled a federal lawsuit filed by Cherry and agreed to pay her $150,000 but did not admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
