Todd County Out Of COVID ‘Red’ For First Time Since November

Todd County has moved out of the state’s ‘red status’ for COVID-19 cases for the first time since November.

The state’s incidence rate is calculated by taking the daily average of new cases, divided by county population and multiplied by 100,000.

Todd County’s incidence rate Wednesday was 19.8, the lowest since November 13 when the county ended a stretch of 10 days out of 11 when the county wasn’t considered a ‘red county.’

Crittenden County’s incidence rate Wednesday was 22.7 marking the seventh straight day it was not a ‘red county.’

Kentucky reported 2,592 new cases Wednesday. Through three days, the total number is well below the same time in December and November.

However, the state announced 51 deaths with February’s total through three days up 93-percent from January and 11-percent from November.

The state’s testing positivity rate of 8.5-percent is the lowest since December 28.

Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said the state has started giving daily updates on how many people have been vaccinated in Kentucky as well as how many doses the state is receiving and the state’s utilization rate. That information is on the state’s COVID-19 reporting website.

Dr. Stack also urged people to avoid attending Super Bowl parties this weekend. He said the more transmissions that happen, the faster the new variants of COVID-19 can spread. He urged people to continue the state’s guidance of eight people or fewer, coming from two households or fewer.

The governor said he will announce new regional vaccination locations in the state Thursday. There are currently 34 regional centers in the state with just six in western Kentucky.
