The officer-involved shooting case of Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree will be heard by the Trigg County Grand Jury on March 10.
The Special Prosecutor in the case, Fifth District Commonwealth’s Attorney Zac Greenwell, told the News Edge he would present the case to the next session of the Trigg County Grand Jury. The Grand Jury will decide if Acree was justified in the shooting death of 44-year-old Shawn Biby.
Greenwell was appointed special prosecutor by the Kentucky Attorney General’s office late last year. He says the case of Sheriff Aaron Acree is being submitted directly to the Trigg County Grand Jury. Greenwell says it will be up to the Grand Jury to listen to the evidence in the case and decide whether any charges should be brought against Acree in the form of an indictment, if there needs to be further investigation, or if the sheriff’s actions were justified.
Greenwell says the case would have been presented to the Grand Jury Wednesday but was not because the investigator was not available to testify.
Kentucky State Police were called to investigate the shooting that occurred on October 28. Sheriff Aaron Acree responded to Biby’s Forrest Circle residence and reportedly became involved in an altercation with him. Biby passed away as the result of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.
