Todd County reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday and the county’s 26th death since the pandemic began.

Eight of the ten cases reported were in a congregate setting and announced on the same day the Todd County Jail reported an outbreak involving 11 inmates and one staff member.

Jailer Jeff Penick said in a release that 131 inmates and 26 staff members have been tested since Friday. He said no inmates have experienced major symptoms from the virus, and their health is being monitored by the jail’s medical provider.

Penick said the employee that tested positive had been outside the building quarantined with a family member and following the local health department guidelines. The staff member was tested before returning to work and was found to be COVID-19 positive.

The jailer said 12 jail employees have received the MODERNA Vaccine administered by the Todd County Health Department.  All newly arrested inmates that are received at jail are quarantined for 14 days prior to being incorporated with the general inmate population.

This month, 33 Todd County residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and two deaths have been reported.

According to the state’s COVID-19 reporting website, there were three Todd County school students who tested positive for the virus last week and none this week.
