Road conditions are improving, but officials are still urging everyone to stay home.
As of 11:30 a.m., Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Two spokesperson Keirsten Jaggers told the News Edge, all crashes on Interstate 24 in Christian County had been cleared. She added roads are continuing to improve across her district.
Keith Todd, District One spokesman, said the main problem in his district appeared earlier to be Interstate 24 eastbound, near the 33 mile-marker. That area is now rolling again near the 33-mile marker at the Cumberland River Bridge in Livingston County.
A towing crew removed 3 stuck semi-trucks from this area earlier in the day, allowing all lanes to reopen. However, traffic remained stopped for about an hour. KYTC personnel checked the area and determined a truck driver had taken a nap and had not realized the stuck trucks ahead of him in traffic had been removed. Once he was awakened, he moved his truck, and traffic started rolling again.
Todd adds the road was salted, but without vehicles moving in the area, the road may have re-froze.
Todd says crews are working on “A routes” across his district and asks everyone to slow down.
