Adjusted COVID-19 Total to Reflect Unreported Christian County Cases

Wednesday’s COVID-19 report from the Christian County Health Department showed an increase of 51 total cases, although the number of active cases in the county remained 100 for a third straight day.

Health Department Director Kayla Bebout said what she called a “significant number” of cases were reported to the state but not the local health department. She also said some of the additional cases are the result of Christian County residents who were tested at a medical provider in Tennessee, with those results not reported to the health department.

Bebout said as the number of local cases has decreased, health department staff has had time to recalculate the county’s numbers and compare them to those reported to the state. She said the missing cases range from the onset of the pandemic a year ago to this month.

Christian County has reported four deaths linked to COVID-19 in the past two days. The fourth was a 59-year-old man with underlying conditions that was announced Wednesday. Amanda Brunt with the health department said only one of the four reported this week was among those in the reporting backlog. She said that death occurred in January. There have been 83 deaths in Christian County linked to the virus.

Christian County saw its total COVID-19 case total rise from 6,199 Tuesday to 6,250 on Wednesday. On Monday, the county’s number of active cases dropped below 100 for the first time since July. The health department reported 66 active cases Wednesday, the fewest since June 24.
