With more COVID-19 vaccinations becoming available to people since the start of the year, fewer Kentuckians are getting tested for the virus.
Through 17 days in March, an average of 12,740 people daily were getting tested for COVID-19, which is 4,000 fewer than last month and half as many as November. It’s the fewest since August of last year.
Other COVID-19-related data in Kentucky is also trending lower. Tuesday’s testing positivity rate of 3.7-percent is the lowest since September 20. There are 441 people hospitalized with the virus, the fewest since July 16, and the 109 people in the ICU is the fewest since September 28.
Kentucky reported 963 new cases Wednesday, the most in five days. The case rate for March is about 15,000 fewer than February and 43,000 fewer cases than January.
The state has reported 322 deaths in March linked to the virus, the fewest for this point in a month since November.
