Christian County Magistrates Approve Two Funding Resolutions

Christian County magistrates approved resolutions that dealt with possible funding for improvements at Ruff Park and a new access road for the James E. Bruce Convention Center and the Sportsplex.

Pennyrile Area Development District Associate Director Amy Frogue told magistrates Tuesday the funding for improvements at Ruff Park could come from a Land and Water Conservation Fund matching grant.

The concession stand and restrooms at Ruff Park are said to have been built in the 1970s. The park is utilized for youth league sports and other activities.

Magistrates also approved a resolution for $341,300 in funding to construct a second entrance and road to the Bruce Convention Center and Sportsplex.

Magistrate Darrell Gustafson said the road is needed to help alleviate congestion during events on Conference Center Drive and will be around 1,000 feet in length. When Governor Andy Beshear announced the funding last week, he said it would also provide emergency responders an alternate access route to both facilities.

Magistrates also appointed Rachel Diuguid Smith to the Assessment Board of Appeals, a part of the Christian County PVA office. Smith is a realtor with Advantage Realtors and will serve a term expiring December 31, 2023.
