Judge Denies Release Of Trigg Sexual Abuse Suspect

Gene Bush

A Trigg County man who was indicted on sexual abuse charges last year was arrested last week after allegedly violating his bond release and being within 500 feet of one of his victims.

During Trigg Circuit Court Rule Day Wednesday, Gene Bush appeared virtually from the Christian County Jail.

According to a Cadiz Police Department arrest citation, Bush was at the Cadiz Restaurant on Thursday, May 6, while his victim was working a shift. Bush told Circuit Judge Woody Woodall he did not know his victim was at the restaurant. Bush was arrested the next day on a Trigg County Circuit Court bench warrant signed by Judge Woodall, charging him with contempt of court.

Public defender Mary Rohrer said the arrest report was vague.

Following Bush’s denial and Rohrer’s comments, Judge Woodall asked special prosecutor Alex Garcia to have the arresting officer or the victim ready to testify during the next court appearance of July 14.

Rohrer also asked Judge Woodall to release Bush based on testimony and some medical issues.

Garcia said the Commonwealth is opposed to Bush’s release from the jail.

Bush was charged after a Kentucky State Police investigation from 2011 to 2016. During the investigation, detectives said they found Bush had inappropriate sexual contact with four separate minors and, on another occasion, exposed himself to one of the same minors.
