Still No Date Established on When Senior Centers Can Re-open

Regional and state officials are continuing to meet to discuss when area senior citizens centers can re-open again.

Since March of last year, the centers closed when the COVID-19 pandemic ramped up across Kentucky.

Jill Collins, director of the Pennyrile Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living, told the PADD board of directors Monday no set date has been established on when they can open again.

Pennyrile Area Development District Executive Director Jason Vincent added their nine senior citizens centers are ready to open.

Even though the centers are closed to in-person traffic, they have not stopped serving hot meals each weekday. As of April 23, Collins said all nine centers had served 308,615 during the pandemic.

The pandemic meals are available for adults 60 or older until further notice; for more information on the free meals, call your local center.
