Beshear Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Kentucky Sailor Killed at Pearl Harbor

Governor Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff Saturday until sunset.

Beshear’s office said this would be done to a Kentucky sailor killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but his remains were only identified last fall.

Navy Fireman 2nd Class Martin D. Young of Hawesville died in the attack on December 7, 1941. Fireman Young will be interred in Lewisport Saturday.

All individuals, businesses, organizations, and government agencies are encouraged to join in this tribute of lowering the flag for Fireman Young.
