The Trigg County Board of Education discussed the district’s facilities plan and heard from Superintendent Bill Thorpe concerning his evaluation during special called meetings Wednesday.
During the facilities workshop meeting, District Finance Officer Holly Greene presented some projects the board could consider; including constructing a new multi-purpose building on campus to house the wrestling and archery programs, upgrades for the concession/restroom facilities at Perdue Field, and renovating the high school gymnasium, among others.
Facilities Director Matt Ladd also told the board that the district’s fuel tanks and pumps at the former bus garage on Main Street need immediate attention.
Ladd said the district has already purchased land near the bus garage on Glenwood Mill Road to set up new pumps and tanks for the buses.
No action was taken during the District Facilities Workshop meeting, but board members discussed projects for an hour. Action toward any of the projects discussed with be made at future meetings.
During the second board meeting of the evening, members heard Superintendent Thorpe’s Capstone presentation concerning his first year and a half on the job.
New superintendents in the Commonwealth undergo an organized and sequenced professional learning and onboarding program by the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA).
Dr. Fred Carter, a retired superintendent and currently works with KASA, told the board he has worked with nearly 200 superintendents and shared Thorpe is one of his favorite. He added Thorpe had an interesting year of training with COVID-19.
Carter added that Thorpe is a workhorse, and the district is lucky to have him.
Lyon County Schools Superintendent Russ Tilford was very complimentary of Thorpe and his work thus far.
After hearing Thorpe’s presentation and comments from Dr. Carter and Tilford, the board went into executive session to discuss the evaluation. Thorpe’s evaluation will be shared at a future school board meeting.
