Kentucky reached a milestone in distributing vaccines by announcing there have been over 2 million first-doses given out.
During his Tuesday news briefing, Governor Andy Beshear announced that having the vaccine this quickly is a miracle.
Beshear added since the Pfizer vaccine has been open to those between 12 and 17, there has been growth in the number of vaccines given week over week.
Eighty-one percent of Kentucky residents 65 or older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while sixty-one percent of the state between 50 and 64 have done the same.
In other news, in-person visitation will resume at all Department of Corrections state prisons and Department of Juvenile Justice facilities the week of June 20th. Governor Beshear said visitors must schedule a visit in advance.
Beshear added visitors must provide proof of a completed COVID-19 vaccination card, wear a mask, and practice social distancing while at the facilities.
As of Tuesday, 76-percent of adult inmates in state custody have been vaccinated.
Governor Beshear confirmed 580 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, while the statewide testing positivity rate is now 2.52-percent.
