Hoptown Hose Down Bringing Back Mobile ‘Spray Parks’ In June

The Hopkinsville Fire Department and Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation have teamed up again to help the community cool down during the summer heat as the 2nd Annual Hoptown Hose Down returns next month.

Parks and Rec Superintendent Tab Brockman announced Tuesday afternoon that Hoptown Hose Down, beginning Tuesday, June 1, will have a Hopkinsville Fire Department provided pumper truck traveling to six different parks — from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays during June — to safely spray down attendees with a water hose and nozzle throughout the city.

Brockman ensures the community the use of the extra truck and personnel from the Hopkinsville Fire Department will not take away from any regular services provided or emergency services.

Fire Chief Steve Futrell says as a truly community-driven department, they are pleased to help bring back this fun concept. He says they look forward to showing off their equipment while hopefully putting smiles on a lot of faces during the month of June.

According to Brockman, the Hoptown Hose Down tour will begin at 1:30 p.m. on June 1 at the DeBow Recreational Complex. He says the rotating schedule will then continue with stops at Riverfront Drive Park, East Second Street Park, Joe Mumford Park, Hopkinsville Dog Park at Pardue Lane, and Walnut Street Park. He adds the exact addresses will be provided on location-specific event pages on the Hoptown Parks Facebook page.

The Hoptown Hose Down experience is free for children and families to enjoy. Brockman says the collaboration between Parks and Rec and the Fire Department will also serve as the perfect bridge to the opening of Tie Breaker Family Aquatic Center, which is scheduled for Friday, June 18.

In addition, Brockman says the Hopkinsville-Christian County YMCA will be on-site as part of the organization’s mobile feeding program with hot meals, prepared by YMCA staff at their facility, available for pick-up during each Hose Down stop.
