All Trigg County patriotic organizations came together Monday morning to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Memorial Day service took place in West Cadiz Park and featured retired Army SFC E7 David Hazelmyer as the guest speaker.
Hazelmyer retired after 20 years of service in the Army and has worked the last 19 years on the computer network at Fort Campbell. He says the United States of America is one of the only countries in the western world that has never forced anyone to join the military.
Hazelmyer shared a quote that has been attributed to both Winston Churchill and George Orwell.
He added we could never thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice enough.
Hazelmyer issued a challenge to those in attendance.
Carl and Leena Johnson from VFW Post 7890 presented the ‘White Table’ ceremony, which honored the over 81,000 prisoners of war and those missing in action who have still not made it home.
Members of the Pennyrile Honor Guard, the James Thomas Chapter of the Kentucky Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Legion, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary were also in attendance to help with the ceremony.
