Governor Andy Beshear announced the launch of the Better Kentucky Plan Tuesday with the first step of the program to deliver clean drinking water and quality sewer systems across the state.
The plan’s $250 million Cleaner Water Program is the first program to accept applications since Governor Beshear, and state lawmakers reached a bipartisan agreement to invest nearly $700 million in federal relief funds for infrastructure initiatives.
Beshear said there are three ways the $250 million will be distributed.
Christian County will be allocated nearly $2.6 million, with Hopkins County set to receive over $1.64 million. Trigg County is being allocated over $538,000, with Caldwell County expecting over $468,000, and Todd County being allocated more than $451,500. Lyon County, with the lowest population in the immediate region, will get over $301,500.
There are 713 public drinking water and wastewater utilities in Kentucky.
