‘Cooling Our Communities’ Concludes, Deemed Successful

More than 30 box fans and $300 cash came into the studios of WKDZ in Cadiz, as part of a “Cooling Our Communities” campaign between the News Edge Group and Pennyrile Allied Community Services — which organizes needed relief efforts in Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, Muhlenberg, Todd and Trigg counties.

Kimberly Allen, logistics coordinator for Edge Media Group, said the partnership only made sense, considering PACS serves most, if not all, of the News Edge Group listening area.

Rising local temperatures, particularly in the months of July and August, often correlate to more calls for fans — specifically in elderly homes — and Allen noted the plan is to combine all collections efforts and get them to the PACS office in Hopkinsville sooner rather than later.

Other partners for the drive included Herb Hays Furniture and Mattress, Pennyroyal Hospice, Hancock’s Neighborhood Market and First United Methodist Church of Hopkinsville, and Allen is looking forward to seeing final totals for the fundraiser next week.

In the meantime, several specific donations were made during this drive — including one local group looking to complete a targeted mission.

Allen adds while this proved to be a strong effort through the month of June, PACS consistently seeks assistance and maintains general donations throughout the year — which often get pushed out for different projects.

All nine PACS offices are available for monetary donations and fan drop-offs on weekdays. For more information, visit pacs-ky.org/give.
