Unity Summit Rescheduled For July 31

Last fall’s Unity Summit that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been rescheduled for later this month.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch announced at the City Council meeting Tuesday night, the Unity Summit will be held Saturday, July 31st.

He adds, more importantly, they are grateful to be seeing much-improved coronavirus conditions county-wide along with loosening of state restrictions. He says both gives them confidence the summit can be handled safely in-person.

Pembroke Mayor Judy Peterson says they are proud of their tradition of municipal collaboration and they look forward to lending support to the Unity Summit along with Oak Grove Mayor Theresa Jarvis, Lafayette Mayor Jared Thatcher, and Crofton Mayor Danny Lacy whose cities are also participating.

Local officials say the Summit is in response to alarming events that have occurred throughout the nation, and is designed to be an initial conversation surrounding the concept of systemic racism including police and community relations throughout country. Event organizers hope to build on existing area connections that have prevented such tragedies while recognizing we are not immune to these developments. Officials say the summit is an opportunity to keep learning from one another, deepen existing relationships and build new ones.

The theme of the Unity Summit is “Where Do We Go From Here?” The summit will be held Saturday, July 31 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Christian County Middle School at 215 Glass Avenue.
